From Scrumpy Jack to Sarah's Cider...
How it started...
Who has heard of “Scrumpy Jack”? Today it’s
a brand owned by one of the global drinks company. It
had its origins at Symonds Cider, in Herefordshire, who
maintained and developed it as a premium naturally produced
cider.
Bill Symonds my grandfather. I can remember as a child
going to my grandfathers cider factory where we sampled
all the different ciders and perries, climbed the great
oak vats, breathed in the vapours of apples and left
feeling quite tipsy!
I wanted to start again and maintain some of the family
traditions, knowhow and recipes. Sarah’s Cider
started in November 2004 with just 100 gallons.
The aim is to make a naturally refreshing cider full
of apple flavour just like my grandfather used too.
Today, amongst other places, Sarah’s Cider is
available from Saxtys wine bar in Widemarsh Street, Hereford,
owned and run by Edward Symonds. |
